PeerTube

Self-hosted, federated (ActivityPub) video streaming and live hosting.

Open sourceSLA: oss-best-effortv8.2.2Image

PeerTube is a free, decentralized and federated video platform: a self-hosted alternative to centralized video services, built on ActivityPub so instances can follow and share videos with each other and the wider Fediverse. This appliance packages the official on-premises PeerTube 8.2.2 deployment (the chocobozzz/peertube application with its PostgreSQL 17 database and Redis 8 cache/queue) as a single NetActuate VM, brought up from a bundled docker-compose at first boot. Deploy it in any NetActuate PoP and you have a private video streaming and hosting backend minutes after first boot.

Key features

  • Upload, transcode and watch videos, plus live streaming, from a full web application
  • Federated (ActivityPub): follow other instances and share videos across the Fediverse
  • Channels, playlists, subscriptions, comments and a moderation toolset
  • REST API and embeddable player for building your own front ends and integrations
  • Peer-to-peer assisted delivery (WebTorrent / HLS) to offload bandwidth
  • PostgreSQL and Redis bundled in the VM, no external services required to start

Free and open source PeerTube is licensed under the AGPL-3.0. There is NO license key. Seed a root admin email and password at deploy (a password is generated into your secret list if you do not provide one) and you are ready to go.

Why run it on the NetActuate edge Run your own private, federated video platform close to your users across NetActuate's global footprint, with full control of your content and no per-view SaaS fees. NetActuate operates the VM and network; PeerTube provides the platform software.

PeerTube is a product of Framasoft and its contributors. NetActuate packages and distributes the official PeerTube on-premises deployment and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the PeerTube project.
