MoQ Relay
The NetActuate MoQ Relay is a managed Media over QUIC (MoQ) delivery network. You publish a broadcast once, and viewers and services subscribe to its tracks through relays on the NetActuate network. You can manage it from the portal at Networking → MoQ Relay or through the API.
Note: The MoQ Relay is in beta. Endpoints, fields and behavior may change before general availability, and the feature must be enabled on your account before use. Contact your NetActuate account manager to request access.
Concepts
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Namespace | A group of streams in your account, such as live. |
| Stream | One broadcast you publish. Its relay path is t/<tenant>/<namespace>/<name>.hang. |
| Track | A named media or data track inside a broadcast, such as video-main or audio-main. |
| Ladder | A set of renditions NetActuate encodes from your input, for streams that use a managed ladder. |
| Signing key | A key used to sign publish and viewer tokens. You can hold the key yourself or have NetActuate issue one. |
| Managed token | A token NetActuate stores and checks, for publishing over RTMP, SRT or WHIP, or for viewing. |
Publishing
A stream takes one of these inputs:
- MoQ: your encoder or platform publishes directly to the relay over IETF MoQ, using a token you sign with your own key or one minted by the API.
- RTMP, SRT or WHIP: your encoder sends to the ingest gateway with the stream's ingest key or a managed publish token. NetActuate packages the input for MoQ delivery.
Each stream has a ladder source:
- Managed: NetActuate encodes the renditions in the stream's ladder.
- Customer: you publish your own tracks, and the relay carries them unchanged, including object extension headers.
Viewing
Viewers subscribe with a token that covers the broadcast. You can sign viewer tokens in your own backend with a signing key registered on your account, or mint them through the API.
Monitoring
The API reports stream health, viewer counts, delivered bytes, per-relay delivery and usage. Every measured figure comes with a basis field saying what it was measured from. A figure with no measurement behind it is returned as null rather than estimated.
API
