Tags

Tags are a lightweight organizational tool for labeling and filtering resources across your NetActuate account. Navigate to Platform → Tags to manage your tags.

Tag Table

The tags page shows a table of all tags you have created. For each tag, you can:

  • Configure — edit the tag's properties
  • View in sidebar — open the sidebar to see all resources assigned to the tag, with quick navigation links to each resource

Tag Sidebar

Click any tag or select View in sidebar to see the resources assigned to it. Resources can span anycast groups, virtual machines, DNS zones, BGP sessions, and more. Each resource includes a quick link to navigate directly to it.

Creating a New Tag

Click + Add to create a new tag. The creation form includes:

  • Name — a label for the tag
  • Description — an optional description of the tag's purpose
  • Color — select a color to visually distinguish the tag
  • Default tag — toggle to make this the default tag for new resources
  • Favorite tag — toggle to mark the tag as a favorite for quick access
  • Lock — toggle to lock the tag. Locking prevents resources from being assigned to the tag and prevents the tag from being moved.

Tags can also be assigned during resource creation. For example, when deploying a new VM through Infrastructure → Virtual Machines → + Add, you can select one or more tags as part of the deployment wizard.

Common Use Cases

  • Environment separation — tag resources as prod, staging, or dev to keep environments visually distinct
  • Team ownership — assign tags like team-platform or team-data to track which team owns each resource
  • Cost allocation — group resources by project or client for internal billing and usage tracking
