How-To Guide

NetActuate Cloud VLANs provide Layer 2 connectivity between your resources and supported network services. They are designed for switch-level connectivity across your environment and are provisioned by NetActuate based on your requirements.

Common Use Cases

Common Cloud VLAN use cases include:

  • Connecting VMs, bare metal, and colocation resources on a shared private segment
  • Extending private connectivity to supported network services
  • Delivering direct-connect style connectivity where a dedicated VLAN handoff is required

Provision a VLAN

  • Cloud (VPC) — connect VPC environments to Cloud VLANs for isolated networking
  • Virtual Machines — attach VMs to Cloud VLANs during deployment
  • Cloud Routing — interconnect VLAN-connected workloads across locations
  • Colocation — connect colocation equipment to Cloud VLANs

Attaching VLANs at VM Build Time

Cloud VLANs can be assigned to VMs at build time using the params.nics parameter in the build API once the VLAN has been provisioned for your service. This avoids post-boot network reconfiguration. See Building VMs with Multiple NICs and VLANs for the full workflow.
