Point DNS to Balancer

Read the domain's current targets before you change DNS.

Check domain readiness

Use https://<your-api-host> as your API base URL. The host is shown in the Balancer portal. Examples use $BALANCER_API_KEY for an existing credential with the required access.

  1. Read your group's domains:
curl --fail-with-body -sS -X GET "https://<your-api-host>/http-loadbalancers/$HTTP_LB_ID/groups/$GROUP_ID/domains" \
-H "x-api-key: $BALANCER_API_KEY"

API reference: List domains for an HTTP group

Expect HTTP 200 with data.data. Domain entries include geoDnsEnabled, geoDnsCnameTargets, dates.balancerReady and dates.sslReady.

  1. Inspect the domain entry and its returned targets. Do not invent a target hostname or copy one from another account.
  2. Confirm the DNS record type and target with your NetActuate account manager before changing your site's DNS.
  3. After the DNS change, verify traffic against your site hostname.

TODO(verify): Confirm the supported DNS record procedure for this setup, including how to enable target assignment, which returned target to publish, apex handling and the required TTL. The sources do not establish a complete DNS cutover procedure.
