Prerequisites and account access

You need an invitation to use Balancer. Onboarding is not self-service.

Prepare your account and application

  1. Contact your NetActuate account manager to request beta access and an invitation.
  2. Accept your invitation and sign in to the Balancer portal.
  3. Confirm that the intended account or organization appears in your available contexts.
  4. Prepare a domain you control and a public origin hostname. You need permission to change the domain's DNS records.

An origin must use a public routable address or a valid public DNS hostname. Private, loopback, link-local, multicast, reserved and documentation IP ranges are rejected as origins. The examples use example.com; substitute your own origin hostname.

Check access

Use https://<your-api-host> as your API base URL. The host is shown in the Balancer portal. Examples use $BALANCER_API_KEY for an existing credential with the required access.

After you have a credential, check your available contexts:

curl --fail-with-body -sS -X GET "https://<your-api-host>/auth/contexts" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $BALANCER_API_KEY"

API reference: List available account and organization contexts

Expect HTTP 200 with data.accounts and data.organizations. Verify that your intended context appears before you create resources. A 401 means authentication or access was denied.
